Power Switch & Interphone
The power switch and the interphone are common domestic entities. They are usually placed against plain or decorated walls. However, these particular ones are surrounded by marks made of charcoal.
Dalia Baassiri is a Lebanese artist, whose home among many others’ in Lebanon, has been burnt as a result of political conflicts. Soon after the clashes were over, she returns to find sophisticated drawings on the walls. A team of housekeepers while deluging the house with water accidently accomplished incredible artworks. Their intension was removing the charcoal caused by the fire yet the outcome according to Baassiri, was art.
In this project, she highlights these walls to put into question the arbitrary vs. the intentional, residues vs. whole, cleaning vs. drawing, absence vs. presence, and imaginary vs. real.
