Homo Faber in città

Homo Faber in Città is an invitation to get off the beaten track and explore the infinite wealth of Venice's craft workshops

In September, on the occasion of Homo Faber 2024, the artisans of Venice will reopen the doors of their workshops to the public.

Whether it is the elaborate lacework of Burano, the refined glasswork of Murano or the beautifully decorated papier-mâché masks for Carnival, Venice is world-famous for its ancient craft traditions. It is not often, however, that visitors to the lagoon city venture beyond its famous monuments and into the alleyways where today's craftsmen and craftswomen carry on the tradition with their own personal vision.

The second edition of Homo Faber in Città urges visitors and tourists to get off the beaten track and discover the places where Venice's craftsmen create works of rare beauty. From 1 to 30 September, in fact, about seventy workshops scattered throughout the city will open their doors to the public: an unmissable opportunity to admire masters of art and young talents at work, and to get to know the tools, materials and skills that characterise contemporary Venetian artistic craftsmanship.

Homo Faber in the City is the engaging and widespread complement to Homo Faber 2024: The Journey of Life, the third edition of the Homo Faber Biennial, a celebration of contemporary craftsmanship held at the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

For a long time now, Venice has been an undisputed protagonist of the contemporary evolution of the arts: a place where creative visions meet and exchange, making it the ideal setting for a unique exhibition and cultural event.
